So like any obsessive nut, I decided to use my free time to wash my car.

Then I decided to clay bar it.

Then to compound and polish what needed compound and polishing.

Then to wax.

The only problem is, I’ve done everything but the sides, and I just can’t. I don’t have any beer, my arms hurt, and I just can’t. I know it’ll take less than thirty minutes and then I won’t have to even think about touching a clay bar for months, but I just can’t.

You’re going through all those steps for each panel individually? Interesting method..

Skip the claybar on the sides if you like, it’s more for getting junk off the flat parts anyways.

Well, I clay bar, wax, clay bar a different part, wax, then remove the first wax.

My yard is almost entirely covered by trees, so if I clay bar the entire car first and then wax, then I havento worry about random detritus.

That’s pretty hardcore. Clay is to take off stuff that has been sitting for awhile and really stuck on to the clearcoat - stuff that you couldn’t wash off.. It’s not about getting every spec of anything off the surface between stages - you get that with your mf towels when you wipe it down.

Usually I’m detailing in the driveway as well, I start with a good wash, then claybar everything, 50/50 water and quickdetailer makes a good lube. Then do any paint correction, I do M80 or M83 the whole thing, then polish, then wax/sealant at the end.. new pad on the PC for each step.

The Tacoma usually takes around 3 hours, the Forester is a bit quicker.

That's good advice.
